The Basel Committee’s definition of critical operations encompasses activities, processes, services and their relevant supporting assets (defined as people, technology, information, and facilities necessary for the delivery of critical operations), the disruption of which would be material to the continued operation of the firm, or its role in the financial system. Whether a particular operation is “critical” depends on the nature of the firm and its role in the financial system.
